The WSJ shows how to mislead with charts.

A subtext to that article and the others below: I don't know how we can get out of our Federal budget defecit without raising taxes. I'm not so sure that cutting spending is realistic in war-time. (I also think that some things are better done by the government rather than private industry. "Security Forces" in Iraq being one of them.)

Some of my more libertarian friends think that the government should regulate little and provide even less (and hence decrease taxes). Yet I've seen no plausible argument on how the rapacious don't screw everyone else when there is no regulation. The power become more powerful and the weak have little chance of stepping up; everything being for-pay is very regressive. I've also seen written that a free markets is only possible when the government makes sure it stays free (i.e. regulates it). (Wish I could remember where...)

Rock Lobster?

The best weblog post I've seen on Bush's endorsement of Creationism. [Enraged, amusing, and a bit profane]

There's this vague hope I have that the real conservatives of the Republican party finally get active and get out from under the religious extremist thumb which is crushing them. But I had this hope before the election (where there was FOUR YEARS of evidence that Bush was in no way conservative) and guess what happened?

Savings rate at zero percent for last month.

Somebody explain to me what incentive there is for Americans to save money. Greenspan is worried about the low savings rate, yet at the same time the interest rate is kept so low that you can barely get a return on any money you do save. That's assuming you aren't losing money from inflation or the value of the dollar shifting.

(I happen to be a saver, but only because of personal hang-ups.)

Bush Endorses 'Intelligent Design'

(No, this is not an Onion article.)
