Wanted (IMDB 6.9 |Rot 72% |Netflix 3.6)
An action movie where an everyman becomes a superman. I thought it was everything that Jumper wasn't, starting with watchable. It was also exciting, not-entirely predictable, and had thousands of rats with tiny little exploding vests. Adorable AND explosive! Oh, and Angelina Jolie's naked, tattooed backside. What's not to like?
Nothing, actually. It was great and I recommend it. A fun time, don't think too hard.
Very cool method for resizing images. I wonder if this could be made real-time and put into a texturing engine. (via DaD)

Which of these is more random?
The one on the right is more truly random than the one on the left. You may think you're seeing patterns and lines, but there's no actual structure in there. The picture on the left may be more evenly distributed, but it's not actually random. The brain is built to find pattern and structure everywhere, even if it may not exist.
This has a direct bearing on randomness in games. If you make results truly random, players hate it. They think it's "streaky", "broken", or "unfair". I've found that you need to make results evenly distributed but not predictable. If you don't they show up in your forums with Frankenstein rakes and torches.
[...] tiki enthusiasts rank the room -- built in 1945 and equipped with an indoor thunderstorm, complete with sheets of sprinkler-produced rain, lightning and thunder -- as one of the finest examples of faux Polynesian paradise around.
"It's the only one that has a rainstorm of that scale," said Otto Von Stroheim, the San Francisco-based founder of the Tiki News, a print and online newsletter. "It's a classic."
